Couldn't get into this book. So much anger & frustration permeate the beginning of the book. The domineering, Bible thumping preacher turned me off as well. While I appreciate the struggles of trying to live in such austere conditions,…

I love how Ms. Kingsolver took a childhood experience and wrote a novel that captured so of the horror and injustice that she witnessed as a child. I found the first part of the book slow, but when things change in the Congo, the book…

I'm sure I can add nothing to the countless positive reviews. This was my introduction to Ms Kingsolver's writing, and it is one of the best books I have read in a long time.

Kingsolver is an amazing author! Appreciate the insights and representations of possible points of view of Congolese people. Appreciate her portrayal of history of Zaire. Wish the U.S. would stay out of other countries' democracies and…

I found the characters and story really compelling as I usually do with Kingsolver's stuff and liked the way the story intertwined.

A powerful, large-scale saga which follows a family of American missionaries who travel to the Congo in 1959. Set across three decades, 'The Poisonwood Bible' is a little grittier than some of the other classic sagas on this list, offering…

I read this book because it’s the April selection for my book club. It took a while to get going and it became tedious in spots. I couldn’t quite catch onto the reason for Nathan Price’s obsession with baptism. Apparently, we’re supposed…
