The Perfect Paragon --- by --- M.C. Beaton
As I peruse my list of authors I frequently read, M.C. Beaton pops up quite to the top of the list. Funny! I’d always thought of myself as a fan of Science Fiction. Not exclusively you understand, but a fan non the less. What a surprise, though not an altogether surprising one to find myself to have submitted myself to Agatha Raisin and Haimish Macbeth.
Beaton’s Raisin is a private detective more at home chasing lost dogs and cats and errant spouses. Generally life is easy and quiet in the Cotswolds villages where people live in ancient stone cottages with thatched roofs and drink sherry with the vicar’s wife. Yet, everyone and while the world of murder visits Agatha’s realm and she sets out to solve the mystery that has forced itself upon her genteel world.

I’ve quite come to enjoy Beaton and her characters. By now I can see them in my mind’s eye: we’ve become friends. I know their shortcomings as well as their strengths. There’s hardly any violence in these novels; gunplay is a thing or rarity. So are car chases. But the plot will keep you guessing. So who is the crook? The story line will send you on dead end chases trying to solve the mystery.
Like I said --- I used to think myself a sci-fi-guy. Now?
