This is such a FUN book! My son often asks for it and laughs each time. :)

Interest level: ages 5-10. On his way home from buying milk, Dad is abducted by aliens, battles a fierce Pirate Queen, hitches a ride with a time-travelling dinosaur, and saves the universe—or does he really? A whimsical tall tale with appropriately silly illustrations.

Really good read with kids, fun for both my Kindergarten and Grade 3 sons. Not macabre or Tim Burton like as some other Gaiman are -- which I also like but limits reading it to very small kids or near bedtime --- so I like how this one is just good fun to read at any time. Highly recommended. K teacher at the school we love (who has taught both my kids) saw me holding the book and commented how it was one of her favourites. So this is two ringing endorsements.

Neil Gaiman is really one of a kind. A quirky, funny tale (this one isn't spooky like some of his others) but so inventive with illustrations reminiscent of Where the sidewalk ends by Shel Silverstein.

Fun little adventure that made me chuckle throughout.

Short, hilarious, and very creative.

This is a book that does exactly what it sets out to do. It's a funny story a suspiciously Gaiman-like dad tells his kids to explain being so long at the store when he just went to buy milk. Scottie Young's illustrations are perfect. I think this would be great for reading aloud with a grade-schooler.

Nothing at all in this book makes sense to me, but what if this life-changing journey is real? Try to wrap your head around a dinosaur whose expertise is Science, a hot air balloon, pirates, several wormholes, one mom's list of things not to do while she's away, two witty little kids, and one clever dad on his journey to get some milk. Gaiman pieces all those and many more in a lovely, enjoyable blend of fiction.

A trip to get milk results in many adventures.

I said good-bye to all the dinosaurs. I thanked Professor Steg for saving my life. "Not at all," she said. "We were both fortunate that you had the milk with you. It is not every container of milk that saves the world, after all." "That was me that saved the world, " I said, "Not the milk." The space dinosaurs all had their picture taken holding the milk and smiling at the camera. "What are you going to do with the milk?" they asked me, "Are you going to put it in a museum?" "No, I am not," I told them. "I am going to give it to my children for their breakfast cereal. and possibly I will pour some in my tea." - See more at: http://jocolibrary.bibliocommons.com/item/show/1267245036_fortunately,_the_milk#sthash.C5hLd5oV.dpuf
