I really enjoyed being exposed to Kate's best side by introducing the character of Julie. The dialogue was spot-on and entertaining. The storyline very interesting.

My only complaint is the book is full of so much information from all mythological sources that it becomes a hodgepodge of facts and references and that if you lose attention once, you probably miss a crucial part of story or world building

Book 2 of Kate Daniel's series, preceded by Magic Bites and followed by Magic Strikes. Story follows Kate Daniel's adventures as she rids the world of evil creatures. This time she must save Atlanta from Morfram and his band of water demons. In this story we meet Julie, a 13 yr old orphan and Andrea, a werehyena beastkin and Bran, Morigan's hound. We also meet up with Derek, Jim, Samain and of course, Curran.

fun urban fantasy. I enjoy the worldbuilding and Kate's character especially.

Fun urban fantasy with a kick-ass heroine. Kate Daniels navigates life in a future Atlanta changed by waves of magic. Plenty of snark and nice character interactions as she fights to save the city and those she's come to care for from a world-endangering supernatural threat.

There's the usual fast paced action, intricate plots/backstories & the "others" you expect in urban fantasy but what sets this series apart is the humour. It offsets the violence & darkness nicely & you'll enjoy watching Kate & Curran drive each other crazy. If you like Jennifer Rardin, these are a sure bet.

“The vampire stared at me, his mouth slack as Ghastek assessed his options. I took a couple of forms from my desk, put them into the vamp's mouth, and pulled them up by their edges.
"What are you doing?" Ghastek asked.
"My hole puncher broke."
"You have no respect for the undead.”
