Perhaps resistance against the Nazi regime would be more impressive if the majority had not occurred after it had become obvious that Germany was about to be lose. Aside from a few idealists like the members of the White Rose, Hitler's opponents at this period were interested in the best possible position for Germany (and/or themselves) in coming negotiations with the Allies. When Germany was winning, maybe they said tsk-tsk about what happened to the socialists and Jews down the street. This makes interesting if grim reading, but don't expect much elevation.

a forest of facts blur the individual trees, but the forest itself, the big picture, comes out clear and instructive, it was interesting to read about WWll from the German side, and to learn about the survival of a more humane spirit amongst some of the agents of this abhorrent regime

I thought it was good going into detail city by city, both in France and Germany. I was not aware what happened at the end of the war in many of the places I have been to and liked.

Quite disappointed - repetitive phrases, use of in appropriate descriptive adjectives for people.
Although extensive bibliography, appears to have been written in a hurry & poorly edited.

It is possible that the extraordinarily well crafted "The Necessary War (V.1)" by Tim Cook coloured my view.
