First novel set in the years leading up to the original Star Wars movie, a previously untouchable time frame in Star Wars history. The stage is set for the coming Rebellion against the Empire: Kanan is a Jedi survivor of Order 66. Refusing to wield his lightsaber ever again, he makes a living as a freelance pilot, keeping his head down to avoid any Imperial attention. But when the beautiful Hera Syndulla sweeps into his life at the same time his friends and his livelihood are being threatened by an Imperial plot, he faces the biggest choice of his life: bow down to fear, or stand up and fight.

Excellent read and back story to one of the new characters of the Star Wars canon.

This was a pretty good book. I found it very entertaining. It goes into depth to explain Kanan Jarrus very well, and has a VERY entertaining villain. There is a nice mix of action, though it is mixed in with some storytelling of simple day to day background life in the great big Empire (which I find to be far more interesting character development than books filled with nonstop action sequences).

Minus a few points for telling basically nothing about Hera's background at all, and she comes off a bit one dimensional and still pretty mysterious.

This is a great book to introduce two of the main characters from the new tv series. It's a good rollicking Star Wars adventure.
