A Night Divided was a nerve-racking, sitting on the edge of your seat book that I enjoyed reading. This book was about a young girl named, Gerta, whose family was divided by the Berlin Wall. Her mother, older brother, and she live on the East side of the Berlin Wall where the Soviet Union had control over. Her father, and her other brother reside on the West side of the Berlin Wall, where the French, British, and U.S. had power over. One day, Gerta sees her father on the other side of the wall after approximately three years. He tells her to dig a tunnel so that she and her family can cross the wall and the Death Strip. With the risk of getting caught, the consequences will be deadly. Is Gerta willing to sacrifice and risk her life to reunite with her family and gain her freedom?

I love this book! It is one of my favourite fiction novels!
The main character, Greta, is a willful and brave young girl who manages to find her own individuality in a time of darkness. The author tells a very heartbreaking and hauntingly truthful story about life during the Berlin Wall. This was a super exciting and thrilling novel that always kept the reader engaged!

I actually wonder how many real life stories would be found to relate to this one. I wonder how many young girls and boys felt the feelings that those characters in this book felt. I wonder how many of them went through situations just like those in this book. This book is so honest and heartfelt, it is almost like you can experience the hardship and happiness, love and sorrow. Apparently another reader online said that any book by this author was worth reading. I was only introduced this through my younger sibling, so I haven't actually read much of her books. Maybe I will in the future, but who knows? 4/5 stars.

This book was a great read aloud to my elementary children. They wanted to look up images and maps about East Berlin, and East Germany.

I didn't think I'd like this book because it was a random book I picked of the shelf. It was surprisingly good though and I would read it again. I really enjoyed the historical aspect and the determination of the characters.

Gerta's family is divided one night when the Berlin Wall goes up, but Gerta's courage enables her to find a way to the west. An exciting story that makes you appreciate the freedoms we have.
