Wasn't sure if they would conclude the Series or wrap it up. Not sure if there were more Series - SPL only has through Series 7. What I liked best about the show that made it different was the time era and the setting. George is still missing his wife, trying to keep Bacchus in-line and professional. They have a new WPC (cop) who is a woman - Rachel which adds a new dimension to the setting. In one scene someone is interviewing a woman and she tells them to call her Ms. All the guys are looking at each other like huh?! It is 1969, and in Episode 1, prostitutes are getting murdered and raped in Durham and the police overlook it. Gently steps in and requires justice for the women. There is a rogue cop in another branch, overlooking the rape allegations and utilizing their services himself. Gently wants to make him accountable, but Bacchus is in love with the rogue cop's wife--oh, no! Episode 2 deals with a murdered doctor who believes the local factory is hurting employees by exposing them to asbestos. There is a great scene, where everyone takes a break to watch the moon landing! Rachel tells Bacchus he is behaving like a "jumped up, swarmy little shite-hawk." Gently and Bacchus now have a father / son relationship, as well as, a working relationship and Bacchus is worried when George seems to have some health problems. The series ends welcoming in 1970. Great detective series, great setting and time period--be sure to watch all 7!

I have watched the whole series - from Series 1 to Series 7. Can't wait for Series 8. Great acting and stories. The 1960's are shown in great detail. Highly recommend to all.

Excellent acting and writing as always, this series just seems to be getting better and better, even if Martin Shaw as Gently seems to be getting older and older. His sometimes trying relationship with his less than respectful partner makes for good conversation while they solve crimes the old-fashioned way in late 60's Durham & Northumberland, England. An added dimension is Lisa McGrillis as a WPC with a big heart and good crime-solving instincts. Masterfully done, and highly recommended!

Despite serious setbacks in both his personal and professional life, Gently fights crimes with the help of with the help of his partner, John Baccus.
