A splendid and touching novel about the complex relationship between an estranged father and his adult son who live in the same boarding hotel in NYC. The son, in his forties, is separated from his wife and kids and suffering from financial woes that his father seems indifferent to. The father is a narcissistic retired doctor who loves to brag about his son's accomplishments.

Wilhelm, the main character, in his mid 40's, finds himself seperated from his wife, unemployed, and almost broke, with a well to do father who will not help him. His only acquaintance, a con man who has invested Wilhems last $700.00 in the futures market, is his only friend. Short, more a novelette with only a few characters, I especially enjoyed Wilhelm's relationship with his ungiving father...Good read
