Few people knew Lucille Ball the way Lee Tannen did. Lee first met Lucy as a child, but their close and enduring relationship began almost twenty-five years later. Now, Tannen gives us an intimate portrait of the lost Lucy years: from what life was like in her Beverly Hills and Palm Springs hideaways to how she traveled, what she ate, and how she entertained. I Loved Lucy reveals for the first time the private face of a beloved star whose public persona is the most famous in television history.

I didn't like this bio. The story line bounced around too much from one period of time to another, too jumbled. I don't believe the author proofread the article before sending it. Much of what he says about Lucy I didn't think needed to be said. I question his friendship or that he was more of a hanger on than a true friend, living in the spotlight of a famous person. I find it amazing that Lucy was so different than her television personality, very controlling, thinking maybe this is why she and Desi actually divorced. I felt from reading this book that if I had to read about another damned backgammon game I was going to explode! So monotonous in his writing about a person that I'm sure had more going for her than what he wrote about. Don't care a shit about the author, he could have done better and the publishing company should have sent it back or at least done a better job of editing the material. This author kind of destroyed my ideal of who Lucy was and the whole biography sucked! He did well by Lucy and in my opinion I think this guy is no more than a leech who loved living the celebrity life in the glow of a real personality, that being Lucy.

It's an excellent read. The author is a gay man who is a second cousin to Lucille Ball's second husband, Gary.
