(5 stars) I love these characters!! The coffee scene with Sam and Jules had me laughing and crying at the same time. The relationships are so real, with their highs and lows. While they experience some extreme things (they have some extreme jobs, after all), there's so much of the mundane revealed as well. The love shared by the couples of the Troubleshooters series is so real and believable. Brockmann is so skilled with creating authentic dialogue, interesting plot lines, and consistent, compelling characters. I keep coming back, book after book, for her lovable characters, even when the blurb on the back of the book sounds like it will be a stretch. She redeems characters, doesn't let anyone come across as perfect, gives complex portrayals of people who could easily be turned in two-dimensional plot devices (Adam in this book, Tracy from Into The Storm, etc.), and takes time to evolve individuals throughout the series even after "their" books. Brockmann has started a new series, but I hope that she will continue to write more full-length Troubleshooters novels.
