Disappointing piece of work. I've read books by other authors on Canada's role in the invasion so I understand the broad strokes of what occurred. Given the size of this book and the implication that it is part of a definitive history of our part in the war, I expected much more analysis of the personalities involved and how their decisions affected the outcome. There are hints about Crerar and Simonds' being at odds or that some of the generals were not up to the job. But that's all. I certainly wouldn't be looking to read any more doorstops by this author.
