This would have been rated as four stars had it not been for the infuriatingly stupid turns and prolonging of a story that plodded along for a needless extra 200 pages. Everytime the case approached the end and the "killer" was identified Hewson managed to find another way of creating suspicion onto another character. It was fine once or twice but after that it became really annoying and I was just happy to see the end of the book. I'm not sure how closely Hewson followed the Danish series, which the plot is based on, and on his website Hewson states that he made some big changes, and they were his decision. Well, he turned an intruiging read into a frustrating effort, with the final end resolution being a disappointment. This was as bad as watching the multiple endings of the third part of the Lord of the Rings. I grudgingly recommend it. The beginning portion will reel you in but after two thirds you may find yourself begging to be put out of your misery. I was, I regretfully have to say.
