I love the way author David Mitchell experiments with the concept of time and connects stories from one era to the next. The story is set in the real world with the addition of some fantastical elements meant to operate beneath the surface of general detection. Despite the mystical and sometimes confounding nature, the human faults and triumphs of the characters shine through and really bring the novel to life, especially with the cast of narrators. I admit, the only other Mitchell novel I've read is Cloud Atlas, and I actually found The Bone Clocks easier to follow, although some found the opposite.
