I enjoy the ease of Elly Griffiths's mysteries coupled with her intense mythic and historical research. The Woman in Blue weaves the myth of the nursing Virgin Mary into contemporary religious issues such as the acceptance of female bishops in the church. In the medieval town of Little Walsingham, blonde women are being murdered, and it's up to Nelson and Ruth to sort it. Meanwhile, as Kate ages, their convoluted relationship becomes even more complex. Will it take the turn we readers long to see? Or will Nelson continue to wear his macho blinders? As usual, the text is peppered with lovely literary quotes and allusions. Even the killers are educated in this world.
