I picked this up at a time when I greatly needed a hopeful book. It really is, in spite of multiple tragedies. For a long time I wished that Willy Jack would disappear for good. In the end, their parallel stories turn out to be important. Novalee ends up with a true, if unconventional, family and a wonderful home for her daughter. While there's plenty of action in this book, it's really character driven. Novalee, and the other major characters, change and grow, which is what makes this a hopeful book. It's not preachy, but full of humor. The interesting names are part of the humor, and the dialog defines each person. I'll read more of her books.
