In Hoosiers, the high school basketball team that eventually wins the state championship came from the fictitious town of Hickory. Hickory High was, literally, the smallest high school in the entire state of Indiana with an attendance of only 64 boys. The team's name was The Huskers and it housed about 6 really excellent players. The Huskers were floundering terribly, though, due to their present coach's laziness and inability to drive the team to reach its full potential. No one took The Huskers seriously. The Huskers usually lost more games than they'd win. Then along comes the new coach (played superbly by Gene Hackman). He moves right in and takes over coaching The Huskers, full-time. He realizes immediately the potential of these boys and, literally, drives them and himself to near exhaustion to prove that, sure enough, they have what it takes.... And they do. With a number of disappointing set-backs to contend with - The coach's efforts eventually pay off and The Huskers make Indiana Basketball History.
