YOU'VE COME A LONG WAY, BABY. Lippman has created an Everytomboy in Tess Monaghan: marriage-averse, sports-loving, and wise-cracking. And it's clear that in the 7 years since she started publishing the series, Lippman has come a long way. It used to be that Laura Lippman was the queen of product placement: why use descriptive prose when you can drop an obscure brandname, circa 1970s (e.g. Banlons & Barcaloungers)? She has toned that down in this book. Ref: pg 78
